Ensemble Stars! is a mobile game wherein the player is a female second-year student transferring into the esteemed Yumenosaki Academy which used to be an all-boys school famous for creating popular idols until she came along as the first student enrolled in the producer course. Facing the fact that the school is not what it seems to be, the player decides to help a newbie unit who wanted to rebel against the school's corrupt unit system and change everything from here on out.
I have compiled links of everywhere Izumi has appeared in that has been translated so far, and I will also be relating canon instances in his personality section to elaborate his mindset further. Though if you do have any questions or if I need to make a more detailed history, please let me know.
Personality: THE BAD- MEAN: Put simply, Izumi Sena is a bitch. His only indicated hobby in his official description is "bullying underclassmen", and it shows in his interactions with his juniors in the school - he's relentlessly harsh to Knight's youngest member, Tsukasa, and is just as cruel to fellow third-year Nazuna, who looks very young for his age. He's not without his short temper, often complaining that something is "So annoying!" if things don't go his way, to the point of it being a catchphrase of sorts for him. Cold-hearted at best and an absolute asshole at worst, one can never know whether Izumi does like a person right off the bat since he's that judgmental towards most people.
(He is capable of liking people; as explained by Ritsu, he tends to go extra hard on them if he really likes someone. And yes, a lot of people have called him a tsundere as a result.)
Although he explained that his bullying as a way of pampering to preparing the youngins for the harshness of the entertainment industry, it still does not justify Izumi being an asshole towards them, whether harshly returning tennis balls during a match or just making the riddles of a special live too difficult for the opposing party. So in the end, while he ultimately has everyone's best interests at heart, he is still going to be a dick about it.
- LOVESICK: If Izumi's not being a dickhead towards somebody, he'd most likely be a huge lovelorn creep towards his only exception - Makoto Yuuki, the bespectacled second-year in the protagonist unit, Trickstar. Izumi's absolutely enamored with the boy, who used to be a model as well before they entered Yumenosaki Academy. While his obsession with Makoto is partly grounded on wanting Makoto to call him "oniichan" again like in their child modeling days, the way he drools over him implies that he wants to be in a relationship. Izumi would drop everything just to take candid photos of Makoto from afar, to scoop him up in his arms, to threaten the player character that he'd throw her, Makoto, and himself off the school roof if they'd start confessing to each other right in front of his salad. It has also gotten to the point that he'd considered a first year, Yuta Aoi, as his liable replacement if Makoto isn't available.
His creepy stalkerish affections towards Makoto all come to a head during the DDD - an important live which determines who will represent Yumenosaki for inter-school idol competitions - where he straight-up took Makoto and locked him in one of the practice rooms for days so that Knights would win by default. While the jig was up and Knights suffered an embarrassing defeat in the DDD (with Izumi temporarily banned from idol activities for the time being), Izumi would still continue his smothering affections on Makoto, though he won't be as clingy in the later months. But that'll not stop him from insisting that they should go on a date while getting recon about a rival unit from another school or gushing like a schoolgirl upon receiving a gift from Makoto on Christmas, so.
- GUILT: Izumi is not a very good person, that much we know. That said, he is very remorseful of the things he'd done, and not just for being a bitch and a creepy stalker. Once upon a time he made a unit with one Leo Tsukinaga, a certified musical genius. Leo had expressed how much he loves Izumi, but Izumi was oblivious to all of it until it was too late; the war broke out, and Leo's loyalty towards him was his own undoing to the point of becoming a shut-in ever since. And while Leo did come back, Izumi's still wracked in guilt for not being able to protect his king as a Knight. Consequently, due to his overbearing nature towards Makoto and stifling atmosphere of the modeling industry, Makoto also states that it's Izumi's fault that he wasn't able to shine in the present. Because of this, Izumi's began to to think that people are fragile, and that he should protect them no matter what - so that he can finally forgive himself for his past transgressions. He said that this is something that he cannot heal from, since the people he'd hurt had suffered so much more.
And yet.
THE GOODIzumi really is a nice person underneath that cold exterior, which weirds out anyone who knew him as a creep or a bully. It's a lot more noticeable by the end of the year when he's all but mellowed out now that Leo's back in Knights and his relationship with Makoto improved over time, but it's just as noticeable in the past, where Izumi actually listens to people and pipes in to give them advice, albeit with a sharp tongue. He's also relentlessly hardworking; born with a terrible singing voice that no one would want to go to karaoke with, Izumi worked his ass off to have the melodious voice he has today. His perfectionism is a double-edged sword, but he is harsh with his juniors in order to toughen them up for the harshness of the entertainment industry, since he'd seen a lot of people break down because of it and would rather not see it happen to more people he cares about. He may have become akin to a nagging mother of Knights, but everyone agrees that Izumi is very good at taking care of people, and it's why his way of protecting people under the pretense of being branded as a villain is extreme - he cares that much. He made Tsukasa sit in a seiza position out of worry (since the latter's been avoiding him), he provided backup support for Trickstar during the SS, he'd perfected Leo's songs to the bone because that's what Leo would have wanted...
Izumi may talk and act as if he's a sword that only exists to hurt people, but in due time he will realize that he's more than capable of loving and protecting someone. He's just going to learn not to go overboard. Powers and Abilities: - IDOL: as a member (and temporary leader) of Knights, Izumi excels in singing, dancing, and performing on stage in front of large audiences. Knights in particular are well-known for their fanservice, so he plays that up to a certain extent, as he's able to appear gallant and chivalrous to his fans despite his terrible personality towards his fellow idols. - MODEL: Working in the industry since he was a child, Izumi knows the ins and outs of modeling and was looked up to by his fellow idol models because of his experience and passion for this career, despite taking a hiatus. - BALLET: His specialty. He took ballet in the past and was able to teach the basics of it to his fellow knights and another unit for the school festival. He's noted to have a flexible body because of it. - CULINARY: His other specialty. Izumi's a superb cook, to the point where the school's kitchen vie for his sweets despite his dislike for them. He prefers eating his own homemade food to keep a closer eye on his diet as well. - KNITTING: He just does. He made a nice dinosaur plush for one of his younger unitmates and a scarf for his beloved Makoto. It's cute, okay. Inventory: his camera, his ipod full of leo's songs, Samples: tdm toplevel |
