[Good afternoon! It's a fresh new week in this changing country. Are you ready to face it? Hopefully so, because starting Monday, 5/4 and lasting until the evening of Friday, 5/8, Izumi will be dealing with a pesky little problem...

Izumi's familiarity with the forests of Yamate is nearly unrivaled. Surely it's a place of solace, as lonely as it sometimes is! But this week, the loneliness may be a little harder to ignore. Any time Izumi places his palm against a tree, he will be overwhelmed by the strong fear that the people in his life will leave him here, alone in this forest forever, and the compulsion that he must do something to stop that from happening. This fear fades within a few minutes of moving his hand away, but the compulsion intensifies any time he touches another one. No matter what charms or spells he may use to try fixing this, it seems like the only surefire way to avoid this effect is to avoid trees entirely until the week is up.

But eventually Lan Wangji will be making his way to Izumi's forest. He's got a little packet of seeds with him, too!! And while his expression is as stoic as always, there are little signs that he's more tired than usual--a very slight droop to his tail, for instance, and his shoulders.

Still, he straightens up into his usual customary bow of greeting, once he finds Izumi.]

Are you busy? I would like to speak with you.

[ oddly enough, izumi is found by the river near the forest, putting some distance from the trees in particular. he's actually rather relieved to see lan wangji coming up to him, and he offers a polite bow in return. ]

but at the mention of the maou, he shakes his head. ]

I don't even know where to start. But one thing's for sure - they're not anywhere in this forest.

To tell you the truth, the trees have been telling me ominous things lately. As much as it pains me to say it, they're getting too noisy for my own good. I could try looking more into it for you, but I can't stay in the wood for too long.

Something about... my loved ones leaving me alone one day. It's hard to put it in words, but that might actually become a reality if we don't find them.

[ he doesn't have a lot of loved ones aside from the entire woods anyway. maybe lan wangji is part of it. maybe leo, or tsukasa, or some other people he wouldn't dare put a name on lest he actually confirms that he has feelings or whatever. ]

But that's just my speculation, and my own problem to deal with. That said, whatever favor it is you need to ask, I'll do it.

[Wow wtf trees?? That's rude??? Between the nightmares and the body effects and the animal-talking (though Lan Wangji hasn't had to deal with that much, fortunately), things have just been getting more and more out of control. DON'T YOU START CAUSING CHAOS TOO, TREES.

(Exposing Izumi's soft marshmallow heart is fine though. They can do that.)

ANYWAY. Lan Wangji doesn't look super happy about that, but he doesn't press any further. For all that he lives here and cares for the mountains and everything on them, his connection to the local flora and fauna isn't as strong as Izumi's. So instead, he nods reluctantly.]

Please let me know if I can be of assistance. [He'd offer to let Izumi come stay with him and Shinobu, but it probably wouldn't make a difference, since they're surrounded by trees too. Maybe Izumi can live in Ookurikara's basement?

But, ah. Yes. Back on topic. Just like always, Lan Wangji is straightforward.]

I am searching for the Maou. [He said that already. He's not making a secret of it; he's asked some people for help already.] I came to ask if you would be willing to inform me, should you learn anything about them.

Ah, is that it. I thought you were asking me to look for them specifically, as a favor. That said, you'll be the first one I'd tell if I find anything.

[ these calm as heck treehuggers... it's fine. izumi doesn't know how long the trees would keep driving him away, but he hopes that it won't last too long. he has a home to get back to, okay! ]

But you know, we can always look for hints together. I may not be able to enter the forest for the time being, so I'd entrust it to you for the time being while I... endure the towns, I suppose?

[ maybe if he sticks to his snake form it'd be less unbearable, especially when he has to go to umite. either way, izumi hates feeling useless like this.

[He wouldn't ask someone to go that far for him, though. Not because the gods asked him, specifically, to do this--just because he's a self-sufficient dude. But he needs all the help he can get, so he won't say "no".

And he would, of course, guard the forests for Izumi, if he wished--his agreement goes unspoken there. Izumi could ask him to do that for any reason, and he'd probably agree. If it gets him away from these RUDEASS TREES for a while, all the better.

As for Wei Wuxian--]

I have already asked for his assistance. [Naturally.] A few others, as well. But I have heard nothing, as of yet.

[ hope izumi's enjoying his late, late, late night, because that's being interrupted. some part of leo considers that maybe it's better to seek izumi out later, when he's less of a mess. unfortunately, umite is Far, and he's... pretty tired, actually.

at least navigating in the dark is easier now. so here he is, at the base of sena's treehouse, looking pretty worn. the bleeding's stopped, but he's still a little scratched up on various parts of his body, and he's so weirdly cold--

--leo does feel terrible for this. even if their sleep has been pretty light as of late for various reasons, this still isn't ideal. he gathers the last pieces of energy he has, and calls out: ]

[ it takes a while for sena to get used to the forest again, which is something that he shouldn't have undergone in the first place. he was so prepared to have a good night's sleep again, but even he can tell that someone's coming from far away.

only this time, it isn't a threat. ]

[ he quickly descends from his treehouse, quickly catches leo if he ever feels like collapsing from all the injuries he'd gotten. either way he's got him.

being part-snake, sena can see more clearly in the dark, but he can't tell what's wrong with leo until he carries him back inside his place, laying him down on a "bed" that's just composed of surprising comfortable leaves and cotton, and turning on the makeshift fire lamp. ]

You've got so much explaining to do. Where have you been?! [ he tries to sound admonishing, but if izumi sounds a little panicky there, leo's probably imagining it. ]

So we're at a loss. To be honest, I'm kind of relieved no one has an idea yet. But that probably means the Maou are that good in hiding among us.

[ mmmmmph. he doesn't collapse completely, no, probably standing upright out of sheer stubbornness and a need to show a bit of strength to sena despite... being in a bad enough state to have to seek him out, but he can't stop leaning into him slightly when he's finally there.

leo's wounds aren't life-threatening or anything, just a fair amount of fresh-ish scrapes with some splinters around the wounds, plus some bruising and dried blood. guess who probably didn't treat any of it! when they settle down and the light turns on, though, his eyes squint just the slightest and he looks away as naturally as he can away from it. if izumi's standing near the lamp, he'll spare him some glances, but they're short as possible and unfocused.

for all the injuries he has, leo doesn't seem to be in pain. just-- tired. ]

[ even he has the sense to sound sheepish here, and the edges of his words even carry a slight bit of a shame, honestly, as he adjusts his sleeves over his wounds. ]

But I guess it's not around anymore, so it's not like anyone'll gossip about it now... [ how casually he drops that in before he quickly moves on. ] Did I wake you up?

so he resorts to putting a series of herbs and flowers in a mortar and crushing it all into a paste, channeling his cranky energy into it. this does seem like a typical weekday for the both of them, but it really had to result in a castle imploding after market hours... could it be that this is foreshadowing for centuries to come?!

[ fook, he does twitch slightly when that paste goes down. technically that's within the limits of their little wager, and... what izumi has to do, so it's not like he can complain... too much. he knows he's helping.

with the return back to that question he was kind of avoiding more than the rest, though, he... still has to pause.

leo's not sure how long it'll really take for him to put to words what he saw in there. he loves the world, but that's... a darkness he'd probably never come to terms with, even if he knew it existed in some forms. there were always hints of that unfairness... sena's memories and his own abandonment proved that enough, but...

he sighs a bit, focusing on some spot on the wall instead. ]

... It was... The remains of people trampling over others, I guess. Cutting them down and using other lives as a ladder to reach the top of a mountain they shouldn't climb, reach a goal they shouldn't have.

That's human nature, I suppose. But it isn't exclusive to humans; if anything, us demons are capable of being more ruthless than them because we follow a different set of moral codes.

There's always going to be terrible shit brewing in the shadows, and one can only remain peaceful for so long. But the least you can do is fight for what you think what's right. after a couple of shoves, he gives tf up and poofs into his garden snake form, slithering onto leo's chest to eye him down before curling around himself and rest. ahh, this is more like it. sena prides himself for being a good host at times, so... leo wins the bed just this once. ]
